Wolves former goalkeeper and club legend Phil Parkes will show his boots are made for walking on Sunday by taking part in the ‘Race for Life’ for Cancer Research UK at Wolverhampton’s West Park.
Lofty, also a member of the club’s Former Players Association committee, will be covering the 5km distance as part of ‘Team ECC’, a group from the popular Sports & Social Club which will also include his son Greg.
Lofty, who lost wife Maureen to cancer in 2010, has since carried out a range of charity work in her memory, with funds raised from FPA events also contributing to the purchase of specialist equipment for New Cross Hospital.
“There are a few people from the ECC club getting involved and it should be a good event which is obviously for a great cause,” he says.
“I do a bit of walking every day so I should be ok to complete the distance! I’m looking forward to it.”
All funds raised from Race to Life are ploughed into Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking resarch to help current and future cancer patients.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to support Phil can do so via clicking this link, which is Greg’s fundraising page.
Many of his former team-mates have already made a contribution when meeting up for a lunch last week, at the Fox in Shipley.
Lofty made 382 appearances between the sticks for Wolves, and holds the record for the most consecutive appearances made for the club.
Back in April, he was inducted into the Wolves Hall of Fame, as seen here in this picture with Wolves FPA Chairman John Richards.
