A group of former players were offered the opportunity to enjoy a tour of their former Molineux stomping ground, rolling back the years with memories of their playing days and getting the chance to see how the stadium has changed since hanging up their boots.

Organised in conjunction with Wolves FPA Chairman John Richard by Lin Kennings and Russell Jones from Wolves, and with a fantastic tour from Wolves historian Peter Crump, the group were able to enjoy behind-the-scenes access across the ground including the tunnel and dressing room area, media room and TV studio, before finishing with a spot of lunch in the Museum.

During the tour, Deputy Head Groundsman Anthony Parker also chatted to the former players about what now goes into the groundstaff’s work on the playing surfaces at Molineux and Compton Park, far cry from the pitches they used to play on whilst they were at the club.

Although some of Terry Wharton’s words when taking the manager’s seat in the press conference room probably can’t be repeated!

“It is always great when we get together, and it was another fantastic few hours taking a look around the stadium and catching up,” said Richards.

“Following on from a similarly enjoyable tour of the training ground at Compton last year, we are really grateful to Lin, Russell, Peter and all at Wolves for their help in organising the visit and their excellent hospitality.”

Former players on the visit comprised John Richards, Steve Daley, Phil Parkes, Terry Wharton, Gerry Taylor, Norman Bell, Gerry O’Hara, Colin Brazier, Gerry Farrell, Mel Eves, Geoff Palmer, Bob Hatton, John McAlle and Phil Nicholls.
